Appraisal for GPs was introduced in April 2002, following full and detailed consultation with the General Practitioners' Committee of the BMA. Responsibility for appraisals rests with PCTs. The Appraisal Toolkit is based on the principle that a single portal should be available to appraising and appraisee GPs, Consultants and Staff Grade and Associate Specialist (SAS / NCCG) doctors in the NHS in England. This on-line resource will bring together advice, guidance, best practice, practical tools and access to a community of peers in the appraisal domain. The content should be validated and kept up to date, and supported by links to 'face to face' forums and communities. |

GP Appraisal in Northern Ireland
| GP appraisal was introduced in 2003. In an introductory letter the Chief Medical Officer stated that GP appraisal was a formative process, giving GPs the opportunity to review their performance, to chart continuing progress and identify needs. Currently each Board holds a list of appraisers who have undertaken training for this role. An abridged version of these lists are available at the links below. Since the beginning of 2005 GPs can submit Form 4 summaries for feedback on their content. The templates used for this process are available on this site - http://www.nimdta.gov.uk/general-practice/gp-appraisal/ | |
