1st April 2002 sees:

• the abolition of the 8 NHS Regions and their replacement by 4 new Regions for health and social care with functions different to the current regions.
• the abolition of the 99 Health Authorities and their replacement by 28 Strategic Health authorities
• the devolution of most current health authority functions to aroun 310 Primary Care Trusts inckuduing commissioning with responsibility for investment of around 75% of all NHS funding allocations for health care.
