Staffed by nurses and trained operators NHS Direct can give you information and friendly advice on what to do regarding your particular health concern.

In some areas of the country GP surgeries are putting their Out of Hours calls through the NHSDirect system. If they think you have something warranting a doctors opinion they will tell you what to do. Or if you have something more serious they will connect you to 999.
